Alcohol and Drug Counselor

More About David

My name is David Sanchez, and I serve as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor-Intern. I work with clients in both our residential and PHP/IOP programs, offering group facilitation, one-on-one support, and recovery education grounded in real-life experience and clinical best practices.

Before becoming a counselor, I walked my own path through addiction and recovery, which gives me a unique understanding of the emotional weight and complexity that comes with making real change. Over the past six years, I’ve worked across multiple levels of care, including inpatient detox, residential treatment, and outpatient services, helping individuals and families rebuild after substance use and mental health challenges.

My approach is structured, compassionate, and connection-driven. I believe healing happens through honest relationships, clear goals, and a sense of emotional safety. I lean into tools from CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and 12-step principles, but I also focus on helping each client feel heard, respected, and challenged to grow. Whether we’re in group or one-on-one, my goal is to walk beside clients, not ahead of them, while they build something new.

Here at The Differents, you’ll find that I value accountability, humor, and authenticity. I’m not here to judge. I’m here to help you see your own strength, challenge the patterns that hold you back, and develop a recovery that actually works for your life.
